Butyl rubber, generally it is called “butyl”, derived synthetically from petrochemicals. Butyl has been utilized to a greater degree in automotive components, particularly in the inner linings of tubeless tyres and as tyre inner tubes because of its excellent air retention characteristics compared to natural or other synthetic rubbers. Other applications include adhesives, bladders, sealants, and the gum base in chewing gums.

Terra Butyl Reclaim (TBR) is recycled out of waste or scrap butyl tubes. The properties of TBR which are soft, pliable, easy to process, and capable of being re-vulcanized make them particularly suitable for a variety of butyl rubber products. Manufacturers can source their raw materials at economical costs by blending TBR with virgin butyl, minimizing the amount of virgin materials needed in their compound recipes.
